The Potter’s Yard, a stone-built dormer farmhouse and ‘bawn’ near Kilmore Quay in South Wexford, is the home and studio of accomplished and experienced potter Patricia Howard. In former times this was a famous ‘Rambling (story-telling) House’ where local poet PJ McCall first aired his famous songs of rebellion, ‘The Boys of Wexford’, ‘Boulavogue’, and ‘Kelly the Boy from Killane’. Patricia’s wheel-thrown, richly-glazed, range of slipware is made for home use while her hand-built and wood-fired alpine planters and fern-impressed tiles enhance the ‘rooms outside’. The Potter’s Yard Studio Shop is open Monday to Friday between the hours of 10 and 5 or weekends by phoning in advance. Pottery Workshops for children and adults are organised throughout the year. Wood-firing, cob-oven building, and pit-firing weekend workshops are planned for 2010.
