Alnwick Castle - They have been making films at Alnwick Casttle since the 1960's, including Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (starring Kevin Costner), Elizabeth (Cate Blanchett and Christopher Eccleston) and Mary Queen of Scots (Vanessa Redgrave and Glenda Jackson) but it is probably best known to Harry Potter fans the world over as Hogwarts. It also boasts the wonderful Alnwick Garden, brain-child of Jane, the Duchess of Northumberland. Barter Books - A fantastic second hand bookshop in an old railway station in Alnwick, just 20 minutes drive from the Coach House. It offers great coffee and open fires. It was recently named as one of the most beautiful shops in the world by the American culture website Flavorpill. This is a New York website listing the top 20 most beautiful stores worldwide. Barter Books is number 16.

Cragside - A unique house originally owned by the Armstrong family, now a National Trust property. The first domestic property to be powered by hydro-electricity, it provides a fascinating insight into the lives of Victorian wealth makers, in this case via armament sales (Vickers Armstrong on Tyneside). Lord Armstrong planted over one million trees to surround the house.
