In their quiet unassuming Englishness, such establishments were once essential to the life of any town or city. So often they were havens of good taste good simple food and lively conversation. Alas, they have mostly given place to plastic interiors and equally plastic standardised fare. We believe that St Martin's contains all the right ingredients, without artificiality or pretence, but with perhaps a touch of welcome nostalgia. The terraced house is typical of Chichester's vernacular architecture, with its 18th Century facade and mediaeval interior. It has been most sensitively restored and furnished relegating modernity to the kitchen where we have achieved exceptional standards of hygiene. We even have a small pretty garden which if not too often suitable for eating 'al fresco' in this climate, at least refreshes the eye. Our food is all truly home-made. We look forward to seeing you
