Hidden behind Áras na nGael, Conradh na Gaeilge Gaillimh at 45 Dominick Street, you will find a passageway into a haven for Irish language lovers! This Irish social Club is aptly named Club Áras na nGael, and there is a wide choice of activities taking place nearly every night of the week. Start off the week with Irish Sean-Nós dancing classes (during the winter months) for all levels from 7 – 10 p.m. on Monday evenings under the expert and patient tuition of Connemara sean-nós dancer Pádraig Ó hOibicín. Even if you do not wish to partake in the classes anyone is more than welcome to come in and watch this intriguing form of dance. On the first Tuesday of every month you will come across another form of traditional dance where the Breton dancers come into the club to practice their own steps. On the second Tuesday of each month there is an “Airneáin sa Chathair” which brings the Irish speaking community of Galway together to appreciate various talented artists of Ireland. There have been some sensational nights with Joe Steve Ó Neachtain, Lasairfhíona Ní Chonaola and Dermot Somers to date. Bob Quinn, acclaimed film-maker will be joining us in February. On Wednesday nights come in for Learner’s Night. If you are fluent, have the cúpla focal or have no focal...it doesn't matter, what matters is your interest in the Irish language. Eílís Ní Dhúill will be present as a facilitator to answer any questions and to give any support required. On Thursday night you will find the students in for Oíche na Mac Léinn. Another lively night can be got on Friday with the infamous Club OA2. Resident DJs Ben ó Faoláin and Mr. Will Softly promise the best in world fusion every Friday night. And to finish off the week don’t miss out on a lively Saturday night with the best in trad. music to be heard inside Club Áras na nGael with various talented musicians each week. This is an open session and musicians, music lovers, learners and dancers are all more than welcome to join in. Feel free to pop in any night of the week.
